Clorofila was started by graphic designers Fritz Torres and Jorge Verdin, when in 1998 they put together “Cha Cha Cha: El Nuevo Sueño de La Gallina”, a CD
collection of local Tijuana musicians that was included in a magazine they both designed, edited and published. After a presentation for the magazine's
release, one of the featured musicians, Pepe Mogt talked with them about the ideas that would go on to become Nortec and invited them to participate. They
accepted the invite, figuring that they would never hear from Pepe or his idea of mixing techno with tambora.
Months later, after hearing the first three Nortec tracks, they decided to work with Nortec on two fronts: on the visual side creating many of Nortec's
graphics such as album covers, live show visuals, flyers and Nortec's fat moustachied pistolero trademark under the name Cha3, but also putting together
music tracks to eventually sell out of car trunks in swapmeets, like norteño idol, Chalino Sanchez. In 2003, Jorge started his alternate project tre/molo,
while Fritz decided to leave Clorofila to grow vegetables in Baja California's Valle de Guadalupe farmland. Jorge continues working under the Clorofila name
and hopes to eventually do some tambora style remixes for Kylie Minogue, or maybe soundtrack work for one of those movies where all the Mexicans are played by
Cubans and Puerto Ricans.
